DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Teaser Trailer

Dawnoftheplanetoftheapes944444.png

The first trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is here! The teaser gives us a first, brief look at the humans, as well as the apes who will be taking over the world. There’s not a lot of interesting footage in this teaser, but I guess it’s enough to spark a little interest. I loved the first film, so I’m hoping the sequel ends up being just as good. The film was directed by Matt Reeves and stars Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Enrique Murciano, Kirk Acevedo, and Judy Greer.

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

The movie comes out on July 11th, 2014.

VENOM and SINISTER SIX Films Announced

venom-and-sinister-six-films-announced.jpg

As most of you already know, Sony Pictures is planning to expand the Amazing Spider-Man cinematic universe and produce spin-off films with some of those characters. They said that they want “to forge a new legacy in the story of Peter Parker on screen.” We now know the details of what the studio plans on doing which characters are going to be given their own movies. They include Venom and the Sinister Six!

They even already have writers and a director being lined up for the movies! Alex Kurtzman (Spider-Man and Star Trek writer) is set to co-write and direct Venom, and Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) will write and possibly direct Sinister Six! I’ve got to say, this is all really exciting!

Of course, the director of the Amazing Spider-Man films, Marc Webb, will also be involved with the development of these movies. I’m a huge fan of the Spider-Man franchise, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the studio ends up doing with these characters. I’m sure we will see even more films get made down the line with different characters, but Venom and Sinister Six are a great start!

Here is the press release with even more details!

Sony Pictures Entertainment announced today that they will, in association with Marvel Entertainment, develop several new projects in the Spider-Man franchise, with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, and Drew Goddard to collaborate on overseeing the developing story over several films that will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach.

The five writers, along with the two producers and Marc Webb, have formed a franchise brain trust to expand the universe for the brand and to develop a continuous tone and thread throughout the films. Under the deals, the studio announced that Kurtzman & Orci & Pinkner are writing the screenplay forThe Amazing Spider-Man 3, which the studio hopes Webb will return to direct. That film will go into production next fall for release on June 10, 2016. In addition, the team will build on the cinematic foundation laid by Webb, Arad, and Tolmach in the first two movies. They will expand the franchise with Kurtzman & Orci & Solomon writing the screenplay for Venom, which Kurtzman will direct. Goddard, then, will write with an eye to direct, The Sinister Six, focusing on the villains in the franchise. Hannah Minghella and Rachel O’Connor will oversee the development and production of these films for the studio.

Commenting on the announcement, Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures said, “The Spider-Man film franchise is one of our studio’s greatest assets. We are thrilled with the creative team we have assembled to delve more deeply into the world that Marc, Avi and Matt have begun to explore in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’. We believe that Marc, Alex, and Drew have uniquely exciting visions for how to expand the Spider-Man universe in each of these upcoming films.”

Arad and Tolmach added, “This collaboration was born out of the great experience we and Marc had working with Alex, Bob, and Jeff on ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’. With more than fifty years’ wealth of stories in the comic books to draw upon for inspiration, the Spider-Man universe is truly boundless; in addition, the Spider-Man comics have the greatest rogues gallery of any series, and to have the chance to explore that on film is truly thrilling. Until now, we have approached each film as a separate, self-contained entity, but with this move, we have the opportunity to grow the franchise by looking to the future as we develop a continuous arc for the story. That is what Alex, Bob, Jeff, Ed, and Drew will do in this unprecedented collaboration, and we’re excited about the directions they are taking the character and the world.”

Emilia Clarke Officially Cast in TERMINATOR Reboot

Via: DeadlineWe’ve got a quick update on Alan Taylor‘s Terminator reboot casting! Last week it was reported that Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke was in the running to play Sarah Connor in the movie. Today that casting is official. It’s not really that surprising as Taylor and Clarke worked together on HBO’s Game of Thrones, and Clarke seemed to fit the role.

Clarke is going to be great in the role. She’s a beautiful, strong woman who has proven she can kick some ass. She will possibly be joined by Jason Clarke, who is currently in negotiations to play her son John Connor. Of course there’s going to be time travel involved, so don’t worry about the whole age difference.

This is looking less and less likely of being a sequel to the other Terminator films. Everyone seems to be calling it a reboot, instead of Terminator 5. But who knows what they are planning for the story yet. I’m sure we’ll find out what the deal is soon enough.

New concept art for cut X-Men character, Sunspot

X-Men: First Class did a great job of expanding the X-Men franchise with some new, young, fresh faces. However, originally, director Matthew Vaughn wanted to add even more First Class members, namely photosensitive Brazilian mutant, Sunspot. Back in 2011, he claimed:

In the draft they gave me all of the characters were in there. We cut Sunspot because we didn’t have enough time or money. They couldn’t make him work, he was a pain the ass.

Well, now, thanks to ComicBookMovie and concept artist Josh Kao, we can get a glimpse of what Sunspot (AKA Roberto da Costa) may have looked like. Check out his wiki description and concept art below

Able to absorb solar energy and metabolize it into physical strength, convert it into thrust to enable flight, or rechannel it as heat or infrared radiation. When doing so, DaCosta’s features melt away into a black mass of crackling dark energy. In unlighted places, DaCosta suffers a slight drop in his power levels.

But fans of Sunspot shouldn’t be too upset he was cut from First Class. Roberto da Costa will be making an appearance in Bryan Singer‘s sequel, X-Men: Days Of Future Past.

What do you think? Are you glad to see Sunspot finally get this big screen debut?

Will Duke Return for G.I. JOE 3?

will-duke-return-for-gi-joe-3.jpg

Director Jon Chu did a question and answer session after the screening of G.I. Joe: Retaliation that I went to He was asked if Duke was really dead, and he proceeded to explain how in the G.I. Joe universe you never know if someone is “really” dead, hinting that Duke could possibly return.

I’ll just say that G.I. Joe isn’t really G.I. Joe without Duke. They did try to kill him once in the animated movie when Serpentor threw a cobra snake into his heart. Of course he survived in the end. While talking to MTV, Chu said something very similar to what he told us when he was asked about Duke coming back,

“You never know, Storm Shadow died in the first one and came back in the second one, and then other characters have died and never come back. The G.I. Joe world, the best thing about it is you never know who’s coming back and who’s not.”

Basically, what he’s saying is that if they can get Channing Tatum back for a third film, then yes Duke will be back! If not, then he will just stay dead. I just think they need to scrap the current trajectory that this franchise is on and start over.

Chu is currently writing the third film with Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman and Ninja Turtles). I’m not holding my breath for this third film. I’m sure it will have a couple cool action sequences but other than that it will be an empty film, just like the first two.

LEGO Batman Vs. Superman Shows How One Sided This Fight Could Be

lego-batman-vs-lego-superman-really-shows-how-boring-this-fight-could-be.jpgBy now it’s obvious that Batman vs. Superman will not be the official title for the upcoming superhero film. If it were, this LEGO short by Custard Productions would give us a look at how the showdown would go. Watch and enjoy, and don’t jump down his throat about the Ben Affleck joke! This video is three months old, we were all feeling a lot of things back then.

Jason Clarke in talks to Play John Connor in TERMINATOR: GENESIS

jason-clarke-in-talks-to-play-john-connor-in-terminator-genesis.jpg

Director Alan Taylor‘s Terminator: Genesis seems to be gaining a lot of momentum! This film development is actually on a roll! It seems everyone is now referring to the new Terminator films as a reboot, so I’ll start referring to it as a reboot as well. There’s a bit of really interesting casting news on the film that we have today. According to Deadline, Zero Dark Thirty star Jason Clarke is in early talks to play the iconic role of John Connor in the film.

You all know who John Connor is right? Just in case you don’t or can’t remember, he is the leader of the rebellion that fights against the Skynet artificial intelligence system that is hell-bent on wiping out the human race. You know what? If you don’t remember, maybe it’s time you watch the first two movies again.

Clarke is a solid actor who also stars in the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes movie and had roles in The Great Gatsby and White House Down. It’s looking like he and Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke could end up starring alongside each other in the movie. If this casting all goes through it would be a great start to casting the film.

According the report, the expectation is that they will be able to make at least two Terminator films before certain copyrights revert back to the property’s creator, James Cameron.

BAD BOYS 3 Is Getting a Screenwriter

Via: Deadline

Sony Pictures is looking to get a third Bad Boys movie into production, and they are looking at hiring Safe House writer David Guggenheim to take a crack at the script. I never thought we’d see another Bad Boys movie, but the studio obviously wants to push it forward. They are also looking to bring back Will Smith and Martin Lawrence to reprise their roles as the crazy undercover cops who fight crime with big gun battles, lots of explosions, chaotic destruction, and harsh language.

Michael Bay directed the first two movies, but it doesn’t look like he’ll be coming back for the third. He’s all about Transformers now! It’s fine though, it shouldn’t be hard for the studio to find a replacement who can mimic Bay’s directing style.

Bad Boys is a fun, over the top action franchise. If they made another one that looked just as entertaining, I’d watch it. They aren’t the greatest movies in the world, but they are fun to watch, and I enjoy going to the movies for a fun time.

Grant Gustin and Arrow Writers Talk The Flash Spin-Off

Warning: Spoilers for the mid-season finale of “Arrow”:

Last night was Grant Gustin’s second episode of “Arrow” as DC comic favorite Barry Allen. At the conclusion of the episode, we saw the incident that not only gave Barry his powers (in the comics at least) but will also likely lead us into the proposed spin-off of “The Flash” some time next year. Speaking with CBR, Gustin talked about what he’s excited about doing in the upcoming pilot saying:

“I’m mostly looking forward to getting the pilot script and seeing how Barry’s going to handle this happening to him. He’s not just excited. It’s scary. That’s what I loved about the character in the audition process — it’s not just he loves superheroes, and he’s a fanboy, and all of a sudden he’s like, “I’m going to be one, I’m really stoked about it.” It’s

kind of like, “This is terrifying. This is really happening to me.” I’m really excited to play more of that.”

The pilot is expected to go into production some time next year with a script from “Arrow” co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. Kreisberg and Johns also talked about the upcoming spin-off, noting the difference between the two shows.

“We’ll want to keep ‘Arrow’ as distinctive as possible and “Flash” as distinctive as possible,” Kreisberg said, “Part of the fun will be how those two things play out in both shows, if we get that opportunity.”
Johns added, “But there are story reasons that Flash feels different and that he’s taking on different things in his series.”
The new season of “Arrow” has introduced a number of classic DC characters into the mix, will “The Flash” take a similar route? Kreiseberg thinks it will, and will likely try and use more ‘fantastical characters.’
“In the same way that “Arrow” was conducive to bringing on characters like Deadshot and the Huntress and some of the more grounded people, hopefully with “The Flash” there’s a way to bring on some of the more fantastical characters, that will probably still go through the grounding lens with which we view everything. But we could tackle some of the bigger villains, and possibly heroes. There’s a hint of a major character in the pilot.”
“But it’s always important to remember — like with “Arrow,” everybody wants Batman to come on and whatnot, but Arrow has to be the coolest person on “Arrow.” The same thing with “The Flash” — Barry has to be the coolest person. If we’re lucky enough to get to do more past the pilot, it’ll really be about making sure that the audience loves The Flash, and Barry Allen, and Grant Gustin, as much as we do.”
“Arrow” pilot director David Nutter will helm the upcoming pilot for “The Flash.” What characters do you want to see show up in “The Flash?” Sound off below!
Here’s a new Grant Gustin interview video that The CW released today as well:

THE WALKING DEAD Is Even Better with Lightsabers!

We’ve all heard that everything is better with lightsabers, and that’s most definitely true when it comes to The Walking Dead. We’ve got a fun image above featuring our favorite characters about to take on a horde of zombies with lightsabers. There’s also a great video and image of Michonne using a lightsaber to take out a few walkers. I’m sure lightsabers would make it easier to survive in a post-apocalyptic world like this.
