Details on the New NINJA TURTLES Character Designs

Up until this point, all we’ve seen from the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film is a bunch of set photos of the actors in motion capture suits. Thanks to Idle Hands we have some new details on the character designs for these totally radical characters! The description comes from a source who happened to see the new action figures for the film. These days it seems most of the movie themed action figures are close to the same designs that we see in the movie, they might not be exactly the same though. I think fans will be happy with the descriptions.

Here are the detail points for the Ninja Turtles:

  • Each turtle has the weapons they should have. (YAY!) 2 swords for Leo, a staff for Don, 2 sais for Raph, a pair of nunchucks and a three sectioned staff for Mikey.
  • Each turtle looks LIKE A TURTLE and not alien…at all. (BIGGER YAY!) In fact the designs are quite traditional and unremarkable, and feature far less texture than the 80’s movie turtles. Eyes are fairly normal and not cartoonishly large. No beak along the nose area like some speculated. Three fingers and two toes.
  • The sort of hunched over posture present in the actors in those leaked set pictures is present here.
  • Amazingly, each character appeared to have a different physique with some (like Raphael and Leonardo) having super heroey muscle tone (though Raph appears more pumped up than Leo) and Donatello appearing slimmer..leaner. Michelangelo could possibly be slightly shorter than the rest.
  • Each turtle’s mask matches the color from the cartoons.
  • Styles of dress are different as well with Leonardo in a sort of pseudo samurai gear get up including shoulder armor, some leg bits, arm bracer and foot wear up to the calf with bindings showing. He might have some armor (non metal) along his chest as well. Donatello’s gear is a mix of techy, modern and a dash of samurai with more normal footwear (for a 2 toed giant turtle), some gadget on his head and gadgetry coming off of his shell. The ends of his mask are far longer than the rest, draping down to his waist. Raphael has adopted an urban warrior look with white, bandage-like wrappings on his feet, right leg, and right arm. He wears this very conan-esque loin cloth..thing..with leather straps draping down as if he were more suited for gladiatorial battle. Michelangelo’s outfit seems the simplest with a hoodie wrapped around his waist, pants and sneakers with the toes cut out, wrappings on his hands and forearms, a necklace (could be puka shell beads?) and his mask ends drape down to his chest. He looks frighteningly ready to spit out some modern catch phrases.

Details for Master Splinter:

  • Again, a very traditional design.
  • Hair pulled up in a samurai..nub? Fu Manchu facial hair going on.
  • His eyes seemed a little odd but I couldn’t make out what was going on there.
  • Slightly tattered samurai outfit with a blue upper half with gold accents, tan lower belted robes and blocky sandals.
  • Comes with a samurai sword.

Details for The Shredder:

  • This guy looks like he owns stock in the Ronco knife company! Pointy edges coming off of absolutely anything. He’ll be the stuff of ridicule for some time. Very overcomplicated outfit.
  • Helmet is pseudo-traditional, adopting elements of the classic look (mostly the shape and key elements) with the top coming down over the eyes to the nose. Mouth area is recessed.
  • Describing the rest of this armor is a nightmare. Suffice to say, even though he’s covered head to toe in metal armor or blades, his arms are still mostly bare. It’s a bit comical. He’s got the shoulder pieces with the blades coming off them, the shin armor with the blades coming off them, black armor areas to offset the steel parts and a cape that looks metal with blades coming down the side. I’d expect we’ll see him whip that around in battle.
  • His only weapons (beyond his whole body) seem to be the bladey thingies coming off his forearm armor. The one on his right arm seems incredibly complicated..maybe a spinning blade?

Details for Footsoldiers:

  • No surprises here at all..just as drab as the goons in masks we saw on set.
  • The figure designs are a bit more colorful with a brownish scarf, blue vest, black arms, tan pants, grey knee pads and black boots. They also seem to have made the mask more of a grey than the copper look we saw on set.
  • The changes in colors and such lead me to wonder if they did that for the toy line just to bring something out for kids beyond a boring black outfit or has there been changes to the Foot Soldier’s look? Our bet is the former. Makes little sense to put out figures that don’t match the movie look, though….but it’s not like it hasn’t happened before.
  • Figure comes with a small hand gun, a larger rifle and a knife. You may be able to strap the smaller gun to his leg in a holster sculpted on.

The Jonathan Liebesman-directed film comes out later this year, and I imagine we’ll get our first official look at these characters soon. The movie stars Megan Fox in the role of April O’Neil, Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, Pete Ploszek as Leonardo, Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, Will Arnett as Vernon Fenwick, Danny Woodburn as Master Splinter, and William Fichtner as Shredder.

The movie hits theaters on August 8th, 2014.

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Teaser Trailer

Dawnoftheplanetoftheapes944444.png

The first trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is here! The teaser gives us a first, brief look at the humans, as well as the apes who will be taking over the world. There’s not a lot of interesting footage in this teaser, but I guess it’s enough to spark a little interest. I loved the first film, so I’m hoping the sequel ends up being just as good. The film was directed by Matt Reeves and stars Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Enrique Murciano, Kirk Acevedo, and Judy Greer.

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

The movie comes out on July 11th, 2014.

Emilia Clarke Officially Cast in TERMINATOR Reboot

Via: DeadlineWe’ve got a quick update on Alan Taylor‘s Terminator reboot casting! Last week it was reported that Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke was in the running to play Sarah Connor in the movie. Today that casting is official. It’s not really that surprising as Taylor and Clarke worked together on HBO’s Game of Thrones, and Clarke seemed to fit the role.

Clarke is going to be great in the role. She’s a beautiful, strong woman who has proven she can kick some ass. She will possibly be joined by Jason Clarke, who is currently in negotiations to play her son John Connor. Of course there’s going to be time travel involved, so don’t worry about the whole age difference.

This is looking less and less likely of being a sequel to the other Terminator films. Everyone seems to be calling it a reboot, instead of Terminator 5. But who knows what they are planning for the story yet. I’m sure we’ll find out what the deal is soon enough.

Jason Clarke in talks to Play John Connor in TERMINATOR: GENESIS

Director Alan Taylor‘s Terminator: Genesis seems to be gaining a lot of momentum! This film development is actually on a roll! It seems everyone is now referring to the new Terminator films as a reboot, so I’ll start referring to it as a reboot as well. There’s a bit of really interesting casting news on the film that we have today. According to Deadline, Zero Dark Thirty star Jason Clarke is in early talks to play the iconic role of John Connor in the film.

You all know who John Connor is right? Just in case you don’t or can’t remember, he is the leader of the rebellion that fights against the Skynet artificial intelligence system that is hell-bent on wiping out the human race. You know what? If you don’t remember, maybe it’s time you watch the first two movies again.

Clarke is a solid actor who also stars in the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes movie and had roles in The Great Gatsby and White House Down. It’s looking like he and Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke could end up starring alongside each other in the movie. If this casting all goes through it would be a great start to casting the film.

According the report, the expectation is that they will be able to make at least two Terminator films before certain copyrights revert back to the property’s creator, James Cameron.

WORLD WAR Z Sequel Finds Its Director

Via: THR

Paramount Pictures is officially moving forward with a sequel to Brad Pitt‘s World War Z, and they’ve hired Juan Antonio Bayona to direct it. For those of you not familiar with the name, he directed the ghost story horror film The Orphanage, as well as the tsunami survival drama The Impossible. He honestly seems like the perfect director to take on the zombie project.

I thought the first movie was great regardless of it really having nothing to do with the Max Brooks book that it was supposed to be based on. The movie actually ended up getting decent reviews as well. I was really surprised by how it turned out.

The first film ended with kind of a temporary fix to the zombie plague. Basically, it was a way to fool the zombies in not wanting to bite into your flesh. Pitt was reunited with his family and all was well. It will be interesting to see where they take the sequel. The original ending to the film included Pitt’s wife being left in the hands of a “cold-hearted army officer and Pitt storming the shores of America, cutting through a zombie horde as his reunification journey really begins.” It was more of a sequel ready ending, but maybe the studio thought the movie was going to bomb so they didn’t want to take the risk of leaving it open for a sequel.

As of right now there are no writers attached to the project, but Pitt is back to produce and star in the sequel as well. I’m really looking forward to seeing what story they tell with these characters in the sequel.

First Trailer for GODZILLA!

amazing-first-trailer-for-godzilla.jpg

Legendary Pictures has released the first official trailer for Godzilla, and holy hell, it looks freakin’ awesome! It looks like director Gareth Edwards, has given us something epically badass. I think Godzilla fans are going to be very happy with what they see. I know I had a smile on my face the whole time I was watching the trailer!

An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

The movie stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, David Strathairn, and Bryan Cranston. The movie hits theaters on May 16th, 2014!

New TERMINATOR Film Titled TERMINATOR: GENESIS?

new-terminator-film-titled-terminator-genesis.jpg

It looks like the title of the new Terminator film has been revealed in a recent tweet from Production Weekly. While offering up some information on the production offices they refer to the film as Terminator: Genesis. I’ve got to say, I don’t know if I like these kinds of sub-names on films. They just keep recycling the same ones over and over. It just sounds so generic.

Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor is expected to be directing the next Terminator movie. It’s not confirmed yet, but it looks like he’s going to be the guy to do it, which is great! I think he’s the right man for the job. I love what he did for Thor.

There’s no official plot information for the movie yet, but it was recently announced that the new trilogy will tie in with a new TV series as well. It was also reported that Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and Brie Larson (21 Jump Street) were up for the role of Sarah Connor.

The first Terminator movie is expected to hit theaters on July 1st, 2015.

New TERMINATOR TV Series Will Connect with New Films

new-terminator-tv-series-will-connect-with-new-films.jpg

There’s a new Terminator TV series going into development! Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures are not only teaming to bring us the new movies, they will also be developing the TV series as well.

Producers have hired Thor and X-Men: First Class writers Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller to write and executive produce a new series, which will be in conjunction with the new feature films being released.

According to THR, the TV series will follow “a critical moment from the first Terminator film (1984) and, where the film’s story goes one way, the upcoming series will take the same moment in a completely different direction. As the rebooted film trilogy and the new TV series progress, the two narratives will intersect with each other in some surprising and dramatic ways.”

This sounds like a pretty epic undertaking. Kind of like what Ron Howard wanted to do with the adaptation of Stephen King‘s The Dark Tower series.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, was the previous Terminator series, and I thought is was pretty good. I have high hopes for this Terminator franchise reboot. it has the potential to be incredibly epic. They seem like they are being very ambitious, so let’s hope it all pays off.

Possible Full Body Design for GODZILLA

Godzilla Movies

There’s a ton of sites reporting that the image above is our possible final Godzilla character design in Gareth Edwards‘ upcoming movie. The thing is, this is the same design that you can see here from a licensing expo poster, and kind of here from San Diego Comic-Con. I guess the biggest difference with this photo is that it gives us more of a full body shot of the creature.

I was told at Comic-Con that what they showed us was not the final design, which makes me think that these are not the actual designs for the monster either, but you never know. If it ends up being the design… awesome. If not, I’m sure they’ve come up with something really cool!

An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

The movie stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn, Bryan Cranston, and Sally Hawkins. The movie hits theaters on May 16th, 2014.

New international robocop trailer

international-trailer-for-robocop-with-new-footage.jpg

We’ve got an awesome full international trailer for RoboCop to watch! This one focuses its attention on the more human element of RoboCop, played by Joel Kinnaman. There’s a good amount of new footage here for you to see, and I have to say that the more I see from the movie, the better it looks to me. I do like how the character keeps the memories of his life and his family. It also looks like it’s going to be packed full of fun action.

The movie was directed by Jose Padilha and it also stars Abbie Cornish, Michael K. Williams, Samuel L. Jackson, and Michael Keaton. It comes out on February 12th.
