Production is officially underway on Terminator: Genesis! Skydance Productions just posted the below image of the shoot’s very first slate to their Facebook page along with the following message:

::SKYNET preparation routines complete.
::Initialization sequence complete.
::Reboot initiating in 03m00s.

The first in a stand-alone trilogy, Terminator: Genesis stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Byung-hun Lee, Michael Gladis and Sandrine Holt with Laeta Kalorgridis (Avatar, Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) attached to write the screenplay. Thor: The Dark World‘s Alan Taylor is directing, targeting a July 1, 2015 release.

So its been confirmed that there will indeed be a farscape movie!  Very excited about this news!

Confirmation comes by way of TV.com:

Just a little bit of, maybe interesting, information to report. ;-p Texting me from WonderCon, a very good friend of mine (@PaulBurrows) just left the Showrunners Panel at [WonderCon]. A panel member, non other than Rockne O’Bannon, the co-creator ofWarehouse 13, Defiance, and Revolution… who was also Farscape‘s creator and showrunner – has indeed CONFIRMED a Farscape movie is happening.

SpoilerTV followed up with a quote from O’Bannon establishing Justin Monjo’s involvement:

“Yeah, yeah it’s the worst kept secret…We’re far from production, but yeah, the first step is Justin [Monjo] working on a script for us. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.”

That’s slightly different from what we heard back in February when the rumor was that Monjo had already written a script for the spinoff. Who knows what the actual status of that script is?

Here again is the summary of the reboot’s reported plot, via Tor.com:

Set to follow the awesome comics written by our favorite Keith R.A. DeCandido, the film would follow John and Aeryn’s son, D’Argo (or Little D, as we will always refer to him). Because their baby was exhibiting a set of interesting powers that made him a magnet for galactic villains, we find that John and Aeryn hide their son on Earth to grow up. Now the kid is 19 and ready to go into space with his parents.

Taking part in an AMA on Reddit, filmmaker James Cameron took a few minutes to discuss the scripts for the upcoming sequels to Avatar, which are currently in pre-production in New Zealand.

“The second, third and fourth films all go into production simultaneously,” he wrote. “They’re essentially all in preproduction now, because we are designing creatures, settings, and characters that span all three films. And we should be finished with all three scripts within the next, I would say, six weeks….The biggest pressure I feel right now is cutting out things – I love to get the film down to a length that is affordable. There hasn’t been a problem finding new and wonderful things to include in the movie.”

Cameron also shot down the rumor from September of last year that Arnold Schwarzenegger would appear as a villain in the film.

“As of right now, he and I have not discussed it, and I don’t see a role as the scripts are coming together that would be appropriate for him, so I would say probably not.”

The individual scripts for the “Avatar” sequels are being penned by a number of different writers along with Cameron including Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds), Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planets of the Apes) and Shane Salerno (Savages, Salinger) ?. The release of the first follow-up will be released in December 2016, with the second to follow in December 2017, and the third a year later. Actors Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Stephen Lang are all set to reprise their roles from the first film.

Kick-Ass star Chloe Moretz has been cast in the lead role of Sony Pictures’ big screen adaptation of Rick Yancey‘s young adult sci-fi novel, The 5th Wave.

The movie is set to be directed by J Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed), and the script was written by Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich).

Moretz will play a character named Cassie Sullivan, “who survives four waves of deadly attacks against the Earth’s population. On the run to save her younger brother, 16-year-old Cassie meets a mysterious young man who may become her final hope.”

Here’s a more detailed description from the book:

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother–or even saving herself. Sounds like its  going to be a  great movie!  Moretz is  a great actress.   should be  interesting what  do you think?

It is known that James Cameron is planning at least three Avatar sequels, and Sam Worthington, Zoe Sladana, and Stephen Lang are officially signed on to reprise their roles. But according to FOX CEO Rupert Murdoch, there could be more.

In a recent interview with Fortune, he said that Fox is planning to “step up our production of major films” and has “one or two or maybe more sequels to Avatar.” The first Avatar film is set to be released in 2016, and when talking about the release date, he said,

“If we make it, it will be the first time [director] Jim Cameron’s been on time or on budget. But he’s never lost me. When he finally comes through, they’re just huge hits.”

Again, we know that Cameron is planning on making three more Avatar movies and that he will shoot them back to back. If they all do well at the box office and make billions of dollars like the studio is hoping, then I’m sure the studio will want to keep making them. So time will tell!

If you’re a fan of the movie Predator, you’ve got to watch this video commentary from Stan Winston School. It features Makeup FX innovator Steve Johnson giving us the history of the Predator costume, showing the original “terrible” design. It even includes video footage of aspiring action star at the time Jean-Claude Van Damme wearing a version of the suit that would be used for cloaking scenes.

I love how no one on the production explained to Van Damme what he would be doing in the film or why he was wearing the suit. Poor guy thought that was what the alien would look like, and he was kind of pissed off, especially when he learned he wouldn’t be performing any martial arts or fighting Arnold Schwarzenegger.

When the final version of the suit was developed, Kevin Peter Hall was the guy who stepped into the role. I’m so glad they didn’t go with that original design, the final design used in the film is so much better. I can’t imagine the Predator looking any other way.

After ditching Max Landis‘ take on Chronicle 2, Fox has hired a new screenwriter to pen the sequel. The writer’s name is Jack Stanley, and he’s a relative newcomer.

He wrote spec script for a film called Sweetheart, which tells “the story of a female assassin whose attempt to get out of the biz is thrown awry by her high school reunion.” It hit the Black List and helped the writer get his start. He also wrote a werewolf thriller called Silver. Neither of those projects have been produced yet, but they are in the process.

The version that Landis was developing was too dark for the studio, which wanted to take it in a different direction. Landis ultimately created the story, so it would have been great to see his vision of how it continued. Hopefully Stanley is able to deliver a script that fans can enjoy.
