Ask any screenwriter and director currently involved in a young franchise and they’ll say the same thing. We haven’t met the characters yet. We haven’t established the universe. Baby steps, etc. It gets a little frustrating because for once you’d like to see one movie without being pressured into seeing another. The new Star Trek seems pretty well-developed, however, so it’s a little unusual to see Star Trek 3 director Roberto Orci reveal that there’s much to learn about this crew’s final frontier.

During a podcast with Humans From Earth, Roberto Orci claims that for the next entry in the Star Trek saga, they’ll be going where no man has gone before (spoiler: space).

In [Into Darkness] they set out finally where the original series started. The first two films – especially the 2009 [Star Trek] – was an origin story. It was about them coming together. So they weren’t the characters they were in the original series. They were growing into them and that continues on in the second movie. So in this movie they are closer than they are to the original series characters that you have ever seen. They have set off on their five-year mission. So their adventure is going to be in deep space.

It’s hard to underestimate the disappointment in diehards familiar with the series when they saw the first trailers for Star Trek Into Darkness. What was this business about the Enterprise crashing into skyscrapers? What was this cityscape business? Where’s the space we were promised after Star Trek? Benedict Cumberbatch doesn’t look like any alien I know! It continued during the film, where locating Cumberbatch’s “John Harrison” (whatever) meant starting some sort of intergalactic war, the sort of intergalactic war that just fades away and is never discussed again.

The original crew of the Enterprise was meant to embark upon a “five year mission” into space, but so far, we still have Captain Kirk, fratty, inexplicably-unkillable Earth-bound jerk. Orci’s promise is to shoot the series into the stars and explore new worlds. That’s the sort of thing fans of the original series actually want to see, but because of how the earlier movies turned out, I’m not sure those diehard fans will trust this director to do that properly. The bean counters over at Paramount, who have to be concerned that Star Trek Into Darkness was a big hit overseas but grossed less than its predecessor domestically, probably aren’t pleased with the idea of nerding out either.

Can Roberto Orci boldly go where no man has gone before? Or are we getting the same stuff all over again? And is “deep space” too ambitious an angle for a first-time director, specifically one who has only worked on the writing side in a duo with Alex Kurtzman (off at Sony doing Spider-Man things)? We’ll see soon, as Star Trek 3 shoots for a 2016 release date.

It’s on! James Cameron has confirmed that he and Sigourney Weaver will collaborate again for the planned “Avatar” sequels.

“Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made ‘Aliens.’ We’re good friends who’ve always worked well together, so it just feels right that she’s coming back for the ‘Avatar’ sequels,” Cameron said in a statement.

The director continued, “Her character of Grace Augustine, as fans know, died in the first movie, so she’s playing a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films. We’re both looking forward to this new creative challenge, the latest chapter in our long and continuing collaboration.”

Word of Weaver’s return to Pandora has been going around for a few years already. She told ComingSoon.net in September 2011, “Don’t worry, I will be back. Jim says no one ever dies in science fiction. He’s told me stories for the next two movies and I have to say that they’re absolutely wonderful and there’s a real treat in store. Now we just have to make them.”

Just how a dead character would resurface in the “Avatar” films isn’t clear, but Cameron told New York in 2011, “Have you ever heard of non-linear storytelling? A lot happens on that planet before she shows up, and before Jake shows up to join her. She’s there for 15 years ahead of time. I don’t know, but I wouldn’t jump to conclusions.”

And since Weaver will be playing a new character in the sequels, resurrecting Grace may not even be an issue for the sequels.

“Avatar 2,” “Avatar 3” and “Avatar 4” don’t have official titles yet, but have expected release dates in December 2016 and December 2017 for the first two, and some time in 2018 for the third sequel.

The original film, released in December 2009 is the No. 1 grossing movie of all time, and earned nearly $2.8 billion worldwide.

There’s no argument that director James Cameron brought us the best Terminator films that have been made. None of the other movies have lived up to the awesomeness that he brought audiences. A new trilogy of films is currently in development, and the first one, Terminator: Genesis, is currently shooting.

During a recent Q&A at the Hero Complex Film Festival, Cameron talked about his past and current involvement with franchise. He revealed that he’s loosely attached to the upcoming films, but he won’t receive any credit for them. One of his biggest contributions to the films was to ensure that the story will focus on Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s character.

I pay attention to [the new Terminator films] but I’m not terribly concerned about it one way or the other. I’ve had to let it go. There was a point in time where I debated going after the rights. Carolco Pictures, the company that produced Terminator 2, was failing and in bankruptcy and the rights were in play. I talked briefly to 20th Century Fox about it. At a certain point, I think I was finishing Titanic at the time and I just felt as a filmmaker maybe I’ve gone beyond it. I really wasn’t that interested. I felt like I’d told the story I wanted to tell. I suppose I could have pursued it more aggressively and gone to the mat for it but I felt like I was laboring in someone else’s house in a sense because I had sold the rights very early on.

Basically I went from being a truck driver to being a film director and part of my dues paying was that I sold the rights to Terminator for a song, essentially, in order to keep myself attached as a director. And the outcome was fine. The rest of my career really hinged upon that. But I no longer had control of it. I thought why don’t I just create my own new thing that I would have control over the IP. So I kind of let it go and in the act of letting it go, I now have to live with the consequences of that — which is I can’t get too emotionally involved in it.

Now having said that — when the new round of Terminator films, they’re making the first one and I think there’s meant to be two (EDITOR’S NOTE: It’s supposed to be three), when Megan Ellison bought the rights, she asked me if I wanted to be involved. I said “Well look. I don’t mind standing behind the curtain and whispering like some court advisory in 15th century Italy or something.” My goal in that was not to insinuate myself artistically but to try to make sure they stayed true to the Terminator character and the idea of Arnold being in it. Because he’s a friend of mine and we’ve been through all the wars together and everything. And I wanted them to see the possibilities I saw for what they could do with this character.

And then David Ellison took the project over from Megan and he and I met a couple times. And so Arnold is very much front and center in the new Terminator films. So I might have had some tiny effect on it — but obviously they had to make the right financial and creative decisions themselves so I’m not trying to take credit for the film that they’re making but that was my goal in being loosely attached to the film but I won’t have any credit on it.

MGM and Warner Bros. are launching a new feature film trilogy based on the 1994 film Stargate.

MGM will be running production on Stargate, with Jonathan Glickman, president of the motion picture group, overseeing the project on behalf of MGM and Greg Silverman, president of creative development and worldwide production, overseeing for Warner Bros. Pictures.

Worldwide distribution will be handled by Warner Bros. Pictures, with select international territories to be handled by MGM.

At the time of its release, the sci-fi film Stargate, starring Kurt Russell and James Spader, set the record for the highest-grossing opening weekend in October and went on to gross nearly $200 million worldwide at the box office.

Emmerich is currently shooting gay rights drama Stonewall, which is set amid the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York. He is also in pre-production on ID Forever Part I and Part II, back-to-back sequels to his film, Independence Day. He’s repped by CAA.

Devlin is currently in pre-production on Warner Bros.’ Geostorm, his feature directorial debut, which he co-wrote with Paul Guyot.

Following a huge first weekend at the box office for Godzilla, Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman revealed today that a sequel is already in the works.

Legendary Pictures, which put up 75% of the money to make the film (Warner Bros. took care of the rest), is now Universal Pictures’ partner, but Legendary and Warner Bros. will team on the sequel again. It is assumed that director Gareth Edwards would return to direct.

Made for about $160 million, the film earned an impressive $196.2 million worldwide this weekend, with $93.2 million of that coming from the domestic box office and $103 million from international markets.

Godzilla stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. Edwards from a screenplay by Max Borenstein, story by David Callaham. Thomas Tull produced the film, along with Jon Jashni, Mary Parent and Brian Rogers. Patricia Whitcher and Alex Garcia served as executive producers, alongside Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira.

I think the  movie was epic  every moment godzilla was on scene it was intense and great!  I know  i would like to see more   would you?  and  who  would  you like to see him go up against?
