Must Watch PUNISHER Animated Fan-Film

You’ve got to check out this incredibly awesome animated fan-made short film for Marvel’s The Punisher! The short is called Do Not Fall In New York City, and it was created by animator Luis Pelayo Junquera. I’m confident that fans of The Punisher will love this because it perfectly captures the character, which is something Hollywood has failed to do everytime they attempt to make one.

This story is based on a powerful and complex one-issue Punisher story created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. It follows Frank Castle who goes up against a troubled soldier he knew from the Vietnam War who ended up killing his family. The short is violent, and the animation is a little crude, but the tone is spot on. Check it out!

X-Men: Days of Future Past Loses Anna Paquin’s Rogue

There’s some bad news today for fans of the X-Men’s energy-absorbing southern belle. EW has word that, even though Anna Paquin shot a scene for Bryan Singer’s upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, the sequence has wound up the cutting room floor.

“Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous,” Singer tells the outlet. “It’s a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she’s in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won’t appear in it.”

The scene in question is said to feature a rescue involving Rogue, Magneto, Xavier and Iceman. As was the case with the original Wolverine costume ending from this year’s The Wolverine, let’s hope that the deleted segment will wind up on the film’s home video release as Singer mentions above. As to whether or not Paquin might be back for X-Men: Apocalypse remains to be seen, but check back for details as soon as they become available.

Hitting theaters on May 23, 2014, the anticipated film stars Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Halley Berry, Nicholas Hoult, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Boo Boo Stewart, Adan Canto, Evan Peters, Josh Helman and Lucas Till.

The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The beloved characters from the original “X-Men” film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class, in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future.

Paul Rudd is Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man!

Rumored for the role since earlier this year, Paul Rudd is Marvel Studios’ choice to headline Ant-Man! The Wrap reports that the Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues star will play Hank Pym in the July 31, 2015 release.

Set to begin production early next year in Georgia, Ant-Man will be directed by Edgar Wright, who co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish (Attack the Block).

Although there’s no assurance yet that it remains the case, Wright’s original plans for the film called for both Pym and the later Ant-Man of the comics, Scott Lang, to appear in the feature.

“The idea that we have for the adaptation is to actually involve both… Henry Pym and Scott Lang,” Wright told SuperHeroHype some years ago. “So you actually do a prologue where you see Pym as Ant-Man in action in the 60’s, in sort of ‘Tales to Astonish’ mode basically, and then the contemporary, sort of flash-forward, is Scott Lang’s story, and how he comes to acquire the suit, how he crosses paths with Henry Pym, and then, in an interesting sort of Machiavellian way, teams up with him.”

The film, which is supposed to launch “Phase Three” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will follow Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s May 1, 2015 release.

VENOM and SINISTER SIX Films Announced

As most of you already know, Sony Pictures is planning to expand the Amazing Spider-Man cinematic universe and produce spin-off films with some of those characters. They said that they want “to forge a new legacy in the story of Peter Parker on screen.” We now know the details of what the studio plans on doing which characters are going to be given their own movies. They include Venom and the Sinister Six!

They even already have writers and a director being lined up for the movies! Alex Kurtzman (Spider-Man and Star Trek writer) is set to co-write and direct Venom, and Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) will write and possibly direct Sinister Six! I’ve got to say, this is all really exciting!

Of course, the director of the Amazing Spider-Man films, Marc Webb, will also be involved with the development of these movies. I’m a huge fan of the Spider-Man franchise, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the studio ends up doing with these characters. I’m sure we will see even more films get made down the line with different characters, but Venom and Sinister Six are a great start!

Sony Pictures Entertainment announced today that they will, in association with Marvel Entertainment, develop several new projects in the Spider-Man franchise, with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, and Drew Goddard to collaborate on overseeing the developing story over several films that will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach.

The five writers, along with the two producers and Marc Webb, have formed a franchise brain trust to expand the universe for the brand and to develop a continuous tone and thread throughout the films. Under the deals, the studio announced that Kurtzman & Orci & Pinkner are writing the screenplay forThe Amazing Spider-Man 3, which the studio hopes Webb will return to direct. That film will go into production next fall for release on June 10, 2016. In addition, the team will build on the cinematic foundation laid by Webb, Arad, and Tolmach in the first two movies. They will expand the franchise with Kurtzman & Orci & Solomon writing the screenplay for Venom, which Kurtzman will direct. Goddard, then, will write with an eye to direct, The Sinister Six, focusing on the villains in the franchise. Hannah Minghella and Rachel O’Connor will oversee the development and production of these films for the studio.

Commenting on the announcement, Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures said, “The Spider-Man film franchise is one of our studio’s greatest assets. We are thrilled with the creative team we have assembled to delve more deeply into the world that Marc, Avi and Matt have begun to explore in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’. We believe that Marc, Alex, and Drew have uniquely exciting visions for how to expand the Spider-Man universe in each of these upcoming films.”

Arad and Tolmach added, “This collaboration was born out of the great experience we and Marc had working with Alex, Bob, and Jeff on ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’. With more than fifty years’ wealth of stories in the comic books to draw upon for inspiration, the Spider-Man universe is truly boundless; in addition, the Spider-Man comics have the greatest rogues gallery of any series, and to have the chance to explore that on film is truly thrilling. Until now, we have approached each film as a separate, self-contained entity, but with this move, we have the opportunity to grow the franchise by looking to the future as we develop a continuous arc for the story. That is what Alex, Bob, Jeff, Ed, and Drew will do in this unprecedented collaboration, and we’re excited about the directions they are taking the character and the world.”

New concept art for cut X-Men character, Sunspot

  X-Men: First Class did a great job of expanding the X-Men franchise with some new, young, fresh faces. However, originally, director Matthew Vaughn wanted to add even more First Class members, namely photosensitive Brazilian mutant, Sunspot. Back in 2011, he claimed:

In the draft they gave me all of the characters were in there. We cut Sunspot because we didn’t have enough time or money. They couldn’t make him work, he was a pain the ass.

Well, now, thanks to ComicBookMovie and concept artist Josh Kao, we can get a glimpse of what Sunspot (AKA Roberto da Costa) may have looked like. Check out his wiki description and concept art below

Able to absorb solar energy and metabolize it into physical strength, convert it into thrust to enable flight, or rechannel it as heat or infrared radiation. When doing so, DaCosta’s features melt away into a black mass of crackling dark energy. In unlighted places, DaCosta suffers a slight drop in his power levels.

But fans of Sunspot shouldn’t be too upset he was cut from First Class. Roberto da Costa will be making an appearance in Bryan Singer‘s sequel, X-Men: Days Of Future Past.

Don Cheadle’s Rhodey to Return for THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

According to USA Today, Don Cheadle is set to reprise his role as James “Rhodey” Rhodes, a.k.a. War Machine, in Joss Whedon‘s Avengers: Age of Ultron. In an interview with the actor, the site simply states that he’ll have “a part to film in the next Avengers movie.”

This is the first time I’ve heard anything about Rhodey being in the film, but It makes sense to me that he would be! He was eventually going to end up in one of the Avengers films, it might as well be Age of Ultron! The question is… will he suit up as War Machine or Iron Patriot?

Andrew Garfield Not a Part of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 4

As you know Sony Pictures already set release dates for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and also The Amazing Spider-Man 4. I just assumed Andrew Garfield would return to play Peter Parker in all of the films, but in a recent interview with Yahoo!, the actor reveals that he’s not a part of the fourth film saying,

“I mean I’m under contract for another one after this… as far as a fourth one? That’s not anything to do with me. But yeah, I think what we’re doing here is we’ve established the world. And now we get to really play inside that world.”

It would be kind of strange not to see Garfield reprise his role. Maybe he is just waiting to renegotiate his contract with the studio? Garfield seems so in love with this character, it doesn’t make sense that he wouldn’t want to keep doing more. Director Marc Webb goes on to compare the first film with the the sequel, saying,

“You know the first time we had to deal with the origin story which was fun, but tricky. This time around the flood gates opened for all of us. We got to explore things that just hadn’t been explored cinematically before. Whether it’s Electro you know, or more the story with Gwen…This time around we’ve really focused on making this a driving action movie from the get go.”

Garfield adds,

“I think there was something missing in the first one because our focus wasn’t on character as much we were trying to keep a number of plates spinning in the air – How can we reintroduce the character? How do we not upset this guy or this guy? That was a tough wasteland we had to move through. Now we could say, ‘who is this guy? How can we best serve Spider-Man?'”

The sequel looks like it going to be freakin’ great! I loved what I saw in the first trailer and I can’t wait to see more! I definitely looks better than the first movie. The actor goes on to talk about his emotional pitch meeting with the films writers,

“I sat with [screenwriters] Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman in a restaurant for lunch in New York, and they pitched me this movie… And I was crying. I’m an easy crier, but I was really emotionally moved by what they said to me. And I think a lot of my emotion was because these two guys love the character as much as I do.”

Now if for some crazy reason Garfield didn’t come back to play Spider-Man, who do you think should step into the role?

The sequel hits theaters on May 2nd, 2014, and I’m looking forward to see how far they expand this franchise and universe.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Trailer Easter Eggs Hint at Venom and Morbius

We already know that Doctor Octopus and Vulture were teased in the recent trailer for The Amazing-Spider-Man 2 along with the rest of the sinister six, but now we have another easter egg that teases Venom and the living vampire Morbius as well.
The information was found on the the Oscorp touch computer screen that Harry was looking at in the trailer, as you can see in the screenshot above.

With word that Sony Pictures plans on making several stand alone spin-off films based on the Spider-Man universe, I imagined these characters would eventually make their appearance, and it’s looking like they just might, which would be so cool!

Bryan Singer Confirmed to Direct X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

When X-Men director Bryan Singer tweeted the news that X-Men: Apocalypse would be coming out in 2016, I think most of us just assumed that he would be directing the film, but there was always the chance he might end up just producing it since it wasn’t really specified.

So in case there was any doubt, Vulture reports that Singer is most definitely directing the new X-Men movie. The site also confirms that the movie will be a direct sequel to X-Men: Days of Future Past, and that it will “focus strictly on the younger McAvoy-Fassbender cast.” So as previously rumored, don’t expect any of the original cast members to return.

It’s been reported Days of Future Past will tease Apocalypse in the post credits sequence of the the film. You can read more Spoiler filled info about that here if you want.

I’m happy to hear that Singer is jumping back on board the franchise again and is looking to give fans another badass X-Men movie!

 

Marvel Confirms Drew Goddard for DAREDEVIL Series

A few weeks ago it was reported that Cabin in the Woods director and Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer Drew Goddard would be developing the new Daredevil series for Marvel and Netflix. Marvel has confirmed his involvement, saying,

Marvel.com brought you the first news of the historic team-up between Marvel Television and Netflix, and now we’re proud to officially announce that award-winning writer/director Drew Goddard (“Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Lost,” “Cloverfield,” “Cabin in the Woods,” “World War Z”) will join Marvel’s “Daredevil”! Goddard will write and direct the “Daredevil” first episode, setting the tone and look for the show, while also serving as series Showrunner and Executive Producer for the 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015.

Goddard is a very talented individual, and he also a big fan of Daredevil, so he’s sure to do some great things with this series!

The other live-action series Marvel is developing with Netflix include Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist. They will lead to a miniseries for The Defenders.
