A couple of days ago, details on the mid and post-credits sequences from Captain America: The Winter Soldier were revealed. One of them will carry the movie into Avengers: Age of Ultron. Kevin Feige revealed at the Captain America: The Winter Soldier press junket that Joss Whedon directed that sequence. The Rhino will Only be in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 for 4-Minutes
A lot of fans are concerned with the amount of villains that will be in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with Electro, Green Goblin, and The Rhino all being featured in the film. You might be happy to hear that just because there are going to be several villains introduced in this movie, not all of them are going to get a ton of screen time. Director Marc Webb talked about the villains at his South by Southwest keynote saying,
“I’m going to embrace the spectacle. There was a moment deep in the [first film’s] post-production process where a giant lizard smashed through a wall chasing a boy-man in a unitard and I said, ‘This is not grounded. I’m not going to be beholden to smallness. I want it to be fantastic, to be big, to command and express that feeling when you’re a kid and reading the comics. … I didn’t want to hide or shy away from that.
We’re obviously familiar with the complaints people had We’re very careful to make sure the stories intertwine. For Peter Parker, it’s very important that you create obstacles that are difficult to overcome.”
He then added that The Rhino is, “in the movie for four minutes.” This makes sense as we know that the villain will also carry over into the The Amazing Spider-Man 3. It seems like this movie is just going to set up the character along with Black Cat. I’m looking forward to seeing how far they take these villainous characters in the franchise. I doubt they will kill them all off since they plan on making a bunch of stand alone movies.
Marc Webb Addresses The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Villain Overload Concerns
It’s pretty clear from the promotional material that has already been released that director Marc Webb is packing quite a lot into his upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The May 2 release is already set to feature Jamie Foxx as Electro, Paul Giamatti as Rhino and Dane DeHaan and Chris Cooper as Harry and Norman Osborn. That’s in addition to teases in the trailer of Doctor Octopus and the Vulture, with further rumors floating around surrounding every foe of Spidey from Venom to the Robot Master. Webb today revealed at SXSW (via The Hollywood Reporter) that, while he’s not giving away exactly what surprises are in store come May, too many villains aren’t going to hurt the story and that Giamatti’s Rhino actually only has four minutes of screen time.

All of Marvel’s Netflix Series to be Filmed in New York
The Walt Disney Company and the State of New York have announced that Marvel Entertainment will film all of its Netflix original series in New York, beginning with Drew Goddard’s Daredevil. Read the full press release below to learn all the details!
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, The Walt Disney Company, Marvel and Netflix Inc. today announced that Marvel’s landmark live-action television series, which will bring Marvel’s ‘flawed heroes of Hell’s Kitchen’ characters to Netflix, the world’s leading Internet TV network, will principally film in New York State. Produced by Marvel Television, in association with ABC Television Studios, this groundbreaking series is Marvel’s most ambitious foray yet into live-action television storytelling and represents the largest film or television production project commitment in New York State history.
Filming is set to begin in the Summer 2014 and will create at least three thousand jobs in New York State including up to 400 full time jobs. The project will include nearly 60 one-hour episodes focused on the 4 Defenders characters: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist.
“New York is where the entertainment industry started, and this unprecedented commitment from Disney and Marvel is further evidence that we’re bringing it back bigger and better than ever before,” said Governor Cuomo. “And when the entertainment industry thrives, it fuels dozens of other industries and businesses. The competition for these projects is fierce and Disney could have chosen to film these shows anywhere, but they knew that shooting in New York means getting to work with the best in world. These shows bring New York’s superheroes home where they belong – along with hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars in new business.”
“Since 2008 Disney has directly contributed almost half a billion dollars to New York’s economy through television and film production, along with approximately 9,000 jobs for New Yorkers,” said Robert A. Our Marvel series for Netflix will inject millions directly into the local economy and create hundreds of new jobs.”

Last November, Disney and Netflix announced an unprecedented deal for Marvel TV to bring multiple original series of live-action adventures of four of Marvel’s most popular characters exclusively to the world’s leading Internet TV Network beginning in 2015. This pioneering agreement calls for Marvel to develop four serialized programs totaling 52 one-hour episodes culminating in a four to eight episode mini-series programming event. Led by a series focused on “Daredevil,” followed by “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage,” the epic will unfold over multiple years of original programming, taking viewers deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell’s Kitchen, New York. Netflix has committed to a minimum of four, thirteen episodes series and a mini-series event in which the Marvel characters from the first four series team up as “The Defenders,” much like “The Avengers.”
This new original TV deal follows last year’s landmark movie distribution deal through which, beginning with 2016 theatrically released feature films, Netflix will be the exclusive U.S. subscription television service for first-run, live-action and animated movies from the Walt Disney Studios, including titles from Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, Disneynature and Lucasfilm.
“The Defenders are classic New York characters; smart, resourceful and tough enough to always stand up for what’s right,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer. “We’re delighted they’re coming to life on their home turf thanks to Governor Cuomo and his team.”
When Governor Cuomo took office in 2011, he made the attraction of the film and television production and post-production industries, and jobs and the economic impact they bring with them, a key part of his overall strategy to grow New York State’s economy. Since that time, he has signed into law several important changes to both programs to make New York more competitive in this global marketplace, and the results have been significant. Both programs enjoyed record-breaking years in 2013, bringing billions of dollars in new spending and thousands of jobs into the Empire State. The stability provided by multiyear funding has particularly encouraged the development of television series production work, like the new Marvel series, as well as long term investments in infrastructure, all of which creates thousands of jobs directly and indirectly related to the actual productions themselves.
During calendar year 2013, applications for 183 film productions were submitted that included 124 films, 33 television programs and 26 pilots. These projects will:
- Generate a direct spend of $2.11 billion in NYS;
- Collect a projected $477 million in credits; and
- Hire an estimated 128,165 actors and crew for the 183 projects submitted.
John Ford, President, International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 52 said, “The men and women of the IATSE look forward to participating in this ground breaking endeavor. Thanks to the vision of Governor Cuomo and the Legislature, the long term funding of the production incentives gives employers the comfort they need to invest in these new avenues of entertainment, which will provide thousands of new jobs with good wages and benefits.”
Thomas J. O’Donnell, President Teamsters Local 817 said, “Theatrical Teamsters Local 817 is thrilled that Marvel’s newest television series will be filmed in New York. This long-term commitment is an incredible accomplishment that will bring not just jobs, but also stability to our members work and family lives.”
Kevin Feige Discusses DOCTOR STRANGE Rumors
One of the most anticipated officially announced Marvel movies is Doctor Strange. Over the years we’ve heard lot of casting rumors, and it was recently reported that the studio is looking at directors to bring the sorcerer supreme to the screen. During a recent interview with IGN, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige addressed some of these rumors and also talked about the reaction to the the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer.
He started off by talking about the recent news of the directors saying,
“Well, that article was true that we’re meeting a lot of people now. That article was not true about who we’re meeting or what level anybody is. But we’re actively looking… We always look at a wide range of people with a wide range of backgrounds. There’s only one criteria: do something that we think is really cool. [Laughs] That’s about it.”
As for the casting rumors, there have been a lot of them, but Feige was specifically asked if they reached out to Johnny Depp, which is a rumor I haven’t heard in a very long time. This was his reply,
“No, no. When you have a project that’s been around as long as Doctor Strange, there is sometimes, “Oh, I’ve met with Stan about this! Or I did that!” So Strange is one of those projects that predates me by a long shot. Obviously, the character does, but even in its cinematic brewing. So there’s a lot of things that have happened before me, and I’ve been here 14 years. So that’s a long time ago. I don’t know if that happened then.”
I’m more curious to know if Joseph Gordon-Levitt is still in the running. When asked if they are actively looking for an actor to play the character, he said,
“You know, I would say that we’re pretty transparent, right? Doctor Strange would be our — well, depending on when we make it, it could be our 13th, 14th, 15th movie, right? I think if you’re looking to track our decision-making and how we’ve done things, we have a pretty wide track record now where you can sort of see. So, no, a movie star is not required, but that doesn’t mean a movie star wouldn’t be great. It just depends.”
The conversation then moved on to Guardians of the Galaxy and the positive reaction of the trailer,
“Well, I was very pleased with it, because it’s still early days for us, as the movie is coalescing and formulating itself in the cutting room, but there are a few things that we would be locked into: the cast, their looks, our use of music and our very unique tone. The fact that that’s what that teaser is about and that’s what people are embracing, there are a lot of happy people in the offices, that people are into this.”
‘Fantastic Four’ Reboot: Michael B. Jordan Responds to Human Torch Criticism
It’s impossible to cast a comic book movie without fans getting up in arms over who is chosen to embody their beloved characters. If recent reactions to the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in DC’s upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie have taught us anything, it’s that us comic book fans are seriously hard to please. But we’ve known that for a while. Remember the chaos over Heath Ledger?
Unfortunate backlash has now caught up with actor Michael B. Jordan, who is confirmed to play Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot. Once the news of his casting hit the web, fans took to Twitter, Facebook, you name it to lash out at the placement of a black actor in an originally white role. Well, now Jordan has a response.
TMZ recently caught up with Jordan on his way to dinner and asked him for a reaction to the criticism. What does he think about the cynics who are upset that Johnny Storm is going to be black? Said Jordan:
“They’re still going to go see it anyway.”
Jordan appeared unaffected by the suggestion of controversy, and why should he be? He has been having a fantastic year with a powerful performance in the critically praised Fruitvale Station and a role in the romantic comedy That Awkward Moment. Jordan and Trank also have an established working relationship from 2012?s Chronicle. We’ve already argued that Jordan deserves the role. If anything, this is just another sign of the actor’s rising star.
Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot is already taking a variety of steps in a new direction. Since so many of the actors who tested for these roles were younger than previously considered, we assume that the film will take its cues from the Ultimate Fantastic Four comic book continuity. Now that Jordan’s casting has been announced, we don’t yet know how screenwriter Simon Kindburg has set up Johnny and Sue Storm’s sibling backstory, but the idea of adoption is not farfetched.

Of course, this type of uproar is nothing new. Comic book movies have always had their fair share of casting controversies. For many, Chris Evans was the perfect Johnny Storm, and yet Evans faced his own brand of backlash when it was announced that he would embody Steve Rogers/Captain America. Now that Evans has taken over as another iconic character, The Human Torch is free to be re-envisioned.
But the hostile response to Jordan also touches on the cross-racial casting nerve that many can’t seem to get over. There was uproar when Idris Elba was named as Norse god Heimdall in Thor, when Michael Clarke Duncan was announced as Kingpin in Daredevil, when Laurence Fishburne was cast as Perry White for Man of Steel and when Jamie Foxx became Electro for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. And let’s not forget Halle Berry as Catwoman. (On second thought, maybe it’s better if we all forget about that Catwoman movie).
This pandemonium is getting old. Can we really call this controversial casting in 2014? Unless a character’s race or ethnicity is essential to the plot of the film, such as in Fruitvale Station or the upcoming Black Panther film, this shouldn’t be such a big deal. When an extremely talented actor is awarded a role in which he could very well be awesome, we shouldn’t adhere to an outdated vision that we might have of the character in our heads. Rather, we should be open to new faces of any color looking to make their mark on an iconic role.

Twentieth Century Fox has cast Marvel’s First Family! Jamie Bell, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara and Miles Teller are Josh Trank’s The Fantastic Four. The Wrap broke the news, confirming months of rumors surrounding the involvement of Jordan, Mara and Teller and were the first to name Jamie Bell as the studio’s choice for Ben Grimm, aka The Thing. Bell seems to be the only one without an official offer on the table, but it is very much expected that he will be confirmed by the studio shortly.
Teller will play Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Mara, Sue Storm (The Invisible Woman), Jordan, Johnny Storm (The Human Torch) and Bell (likely through motion-capture), Ben Grimm (The Thing). Previous reports have suggested that Trank’s iteration of the story also involves Dr. Victor Von Doom, so expect more casting on The Fantastic Four very soon.
Filming on The Fantastic Four is expected to begin in Baton Rouge this March. Josh Trank will direct the big screen adaptation, which is currently set for release on June 19, 2015?.

Joss Whedon Starts Shooting AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON
Today Joss Whedon started his long journey to bring us the highly anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron! Production on the sequel has begun in Johannesburg, South Africa. The crew will film on location there for two weeks before heading off to Italy, South Korea, and finally, UK’s Pinewood Studios where the most of the film will be shot.
Apparently the opening 10 minutes of the film will be set in Johannesburg, South Africa. None of the film’s major stars – Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, or Scarlett Johansson – have started shooting yet, though.
It’s awesome to know that they have started production because there’s a really good chance that there will be some footage to screen at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con!
Details on Black Widow’s Role in AVENGERS 2 and Possible Solo Movie
Thanks to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and actor Chris Evans we have some more details on Joss Whedon‘s Avengers: Age of Ultron. During an interview with Total Film, they talk about Black Widow and how the sequel will explore the backstory of the character, and reveal that there has been some movement on a solo movie.
From what we’ve seen of Captain America: The Winter Solider so far, it looked a little like maybe we would get some more information on the past of Scarlett Johansson‘s Russian spy, Natasha Romanoff, but it looks like it will be explored in more depth in Age of Ultron.
“Black Widow’s whole arc [in The Winter Soldier] is coming to terms with her history – that she’s been a spy, and spies aren’t necessarily trustworthy.”
Feige went on to discuss Age of Ultron and the possibility of a solo movie saying,
“We start filming the next Avengers film at the end of March. [Black] Widow’s part in that is very big. We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that.”
I would love to see a standalone Black Widow movie happen. She’s a great, kickass character who I think could hold her own. As far as what else they are doing with Age of Ultron, Feige continued,
“We wanted to change the dynamic of the cinematic universe with this film. We wanted Cap and really the entire cinematic universe to be very different at the end of Winter Solider than it is at the beginning. Therefore when we meet the Avengers at the top of Age of Ultron, it’s a very different landscape than we left them at the end of the film. Partially that’s because we love the rhythm that the comic books have developed – each of the characters appear in their runs, occasionally they get together for a big event or crossover series, they part again, and then they come back together again.”
