Despite not going over too well with critics and most everyone else, Terminator: Genisys still took in close to $440 million worldwide, (which currently places it at #197 all-time at the time of this posting. By way of comparison, 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines is right below it at #198 with $433.4M. The dollars are not adjusted for inflation, it was released 12 years earlier, and it did not have the benefit of 3D or IMAX for extra revenue.) Paramount/Skydance seemed dead set on continuing the franchise after “readjusting” their approach to the material.
Well, if they do decide to move forward with more movies, it appears they’ll be doing so without their lead actress. Coming Soon asked Emilia Clarke outright if she’d be returning to the role of Sarah Connor, and her response couldn’t have been more definitive.
“No. Can I say that? It’s okay. No. Uh-uh. But I have some very different roles coming up.”
We look forward to hearing about them, but first we’ll see the stunning actress back in the blond wig as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones season 6.
This could be catastrophic. Without Emilia Clarke reprising her role as Sarah Connor, the entire continuity of the perfectly tight-knit Terminator timeline will be in jeopardy! How would they be able to explain this possible paradox without risking its credibility, and totally confusing the audience?
Are you disappointed Clarke won’t be returning as Sarah Connor, or do you think after Genisys the Terminator franchise should be.. well, terminated?
