Activision has announced (via USA Today) that a brand new Ghostbusters video game will debut later this summer, arriving on July 12, just ahead of the new film on July 15.
The four-player co-op game takes placed after the events of the upcoming film and sees players forming a new squad of Ghostbusters. Players will be able to pick from male and female characters vying to keep New York City safe, again.
Set to debut on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
If a player dies and becomes a ghost, does the co-op game suddenly turn into PvP mode?
Will the game contain spoliers from the movie? Is it a stand-alone, or are you forced into watching the movie in order to understand the game? Is the game based off an unused script like the 2009 PC game “Ghostbusters”?
The new Ghostbusters film stars Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy as scientists Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates, respectively. Gilbert is a particle physicist while Yates, Gilbert’s close friend, is an expert in the paranormal. As ghost sightings ramp up, they team with Kate McKinnon‘s Jillian Holtzmann, a nuclear engineer who winds up creating the team’s tech. Leslie Jones‘ Patty Tolan, then, is the team’s everyman character who winds up playing an important role connected to an early supernatural encounter.
The Ghostbusters movie is directed by Paul Feig from a script he co-wrote with Katie Dippold.
