“Ghostbusters: Ecto Force” animated series coming to TV

Just weeks before the launch of the new Ghosbuters film, Sony has announced plans for an animated series.

Melissa McCarthy and crew won’t be along for the ride as the show will follow a new generation of Ghostbusters.

Here is the press release from Sony Pictures Animation:

A brand new animated television series, GHOSTBUSTERS: ECTO FORCE, will further expand the Ghostbusters cinematic universe and focus on a new generation of Ghostbusters in the year 2050 who capture ghosts around the world with help from local teams—and some very cool gear! The younger-skewing Sony Pictures Animation project is being creatively spearheaded by Ivan Reitman and his production company Ghost Corps. GHOSTBUSTERS: ECTO FORCE is eyeing an early 2018 debut.

The franchise has previously been seen on TV in animated form with The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters, both being continuations of the original films.

Sony Pictures Animation also announced television series adaptions for two of their animated film franchises. Hotel Transylvania: The Television Series is set to premiere in 2017 on the Disney Channel and will revolve around the teenage years of Dracula’s daughter, Mavis and her friends. Debuting in 2017 as well, but on Cartoon Network will be a series expanding on the adventures from Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.

The newest big screen iteration of Ghostbusters, which stars McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon, will slime into theaters on July 15.
