JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3 Director Confirmed and Info on The Returning Cast

John Wick: Chapter 3 is inching closer to production! We have some new information on the film thanks to That Hashtag Show. We already know that Keanu Reeves will be back to kick some ass as he fights to survive the army of assassins that will be out to kill him.

We’ve now learned that John Wick: Chapter 2 director Chad Stahelski will return for this next chapter of the franchise and that he will start shooting it on March 1st in New York City with additional filming possibly taking place in Spain and Russia.

As far as the rest of the cast goes, it’s being reported that Common will return as Cassian, Laurence Fishburne will be back as the Bowery King, and Ruby Rose set to return as  Ares. you can bet your ass that Ian McShane will return as well.

There’s also going to be a few new characters introduced including the main antagonist, who is said to be the head of a Japanese crime syndicate. That character will be played by Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolverine, Avengers 4). Reeves and Sanada previously appeared together in the 2013 film 47 Ronin. The report goes on to say:

We’ve also been told that there is a yet to be cast female role opposite Reeves. The studio is searching for an actress in her late 20s to early 40s and is open to diverse casting. While we’ve heard that Reeves is keen to bring actress Tilda Swinton into the John Wick franchise, this may NOT be that role.

When previously talking about the film, Stahelski discussed what he wanted to play with in this third chapter, saying:

“We want, not so much to go bigger on the third one, but to show you more of the intricacies of the world… I feel like there are all these different subtleties that I skipped over in Number Two, that I’d like to go back to on [chapter three] and show you the inner workings of different parts of New York. So rather than massive set pieces, I’d like to show you cooler and more intricate ones… I think it would be a mistake budget wise and creatively to just go big and blow up a freeway. That’s not our gig. That’s a comic book or a Bond gig. We want to show you cool and intricate details. What are those little details in everyday life? Hopefully – we make people look at garbage collectors and cleaner vans and homeless people a little differently now.”

John Wick: Chapter 3 is set to be released in theaters May 17, 2019. As we get closer to production, expect to see more news released on the film in the near future.
