Deadpool Takes A Break: Here’s Why Ryan Reynolds Won’t Be Performing His Own Stunts On ‘Deadpool 2’

Whether it was a gun or a katana in his hands, Wade Wilson a.k.a. Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) was more than capable of taking down anyone with ease. But the reality behind filming these awesome fights is a lot harsher than some may think, and this is why Reynolds will not be able to perform his character’s stunts for the highly anticipated Deadpool 2.

In an interview with Empire, Reynolds revealed that he had no choice but to delegate his character’s stunts in the sequel due to his health.

“I’ve had some bad injuries doing stunt. I broke a couple of vertebrae in my neck. It was a bad situation. I remember the doctor sitting in the office – it was about the seventh time I had been there that year – and he writes on a prescription pad, rips off the note and it reads ‘Stuntman’. Point taken. So now I use four different guys that come with me.”

Given that wears a mask in most of his action scenes, using stunt doubles to replace Reynolds won’t be much of set-back for the filmmakers. Previously, Reynolds did a fair share of his own stunts while a double took over some of the riskier physical feats, but few would be able to tell the difference between the two. It’s worth noting that Reynolds was one of the few action stars along with Keanu Reeves, Jason Statham and a handful of others, who famously perform their own stunts.'Deadpool' [Credit: 20th Century Fox]
