Tarzan Revealed: a Look at Alexander Skarsgard as the Jungle Hero

Alexander Skarsgard stars as Tarzan in the upcoming David Yates film.

The first images from director David Yates’ upcoming The Legend of Tarzan have just come online via USA Today! In the gallery viewer below, check out two different shots of leading man Alexander Skarsgård (“True Blood,” Battleship) as Tarzan himself! One of the pictures also features Margot Robbie (Focus, The Wolf of Wall Street) as Jane. You can expect the first trailer for The Legend of Tarzan to be released online soon.

In The Legend of Tarzan, it has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.

The Legend of Tarzan cast also includes Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz and Djimon Hounsou.
Tarzan made his first appearance in Edgar Rice Burroughs’ 1912 novel Tarzan of the Apes. The jungle hero would go to be the focus of an additional 23 novels by the author. In the century since the character’s inception, Tarzan has been adapted into just about every medium, including dozens of different feature film iterations.
Director David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter films, has himself already returned to the Wizarding World. He’s directing the upcoming spinoff series Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Look for that film just a few months after The Legend of Tarzan. The jungle adventure hits theaters July 1, 2016 with Beasts following on November18, 2018.
