Warner Bros. has set a release date for their Harry Potter spinoff film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. According to Exhibitor Relations, that date is November 18th, 2016.
The story takes place a number of years before the events of the Harry Potter books and films. It is loosely based on a book that J.K. Rowling wrote for charity. The film will tell an original story, and with it, Rowling will be making her screenwriting debut.
The book is a reproduction of a textbook owned by Harry Potter that was mentioned in the first Potter novel. The fictional textbook was written by a fictional magizoologist character named Newt Scamander. For those of you who aren’t up to speed on the Potter universe, Magizoology is the study of magical creatures.
It was previously reported that this story will be turned into a trilogy of films. While talking about the story Rowling said,
“Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for 17 years, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world. The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, 70 years before Harry’s gets underway.”
What are your thoughts? I am not a huge harry potter fan but i know there are many that are!
