Fox Developing Silver Surfer Movie, Plus X-Men Movie Updates

With the potential merger of Disney and 20th Century Fox lingering in the background, many fans have wondered what the studio will be doing with their Marvel properties before their potential return to the House of Ideas. The Hollywood Reporter has several revelations in a new report that indicates that not only is the studio not slowing down on their Marvel properties, but they’re developing more projects now than they ever have in the past.

First up, to pair it up with Noah Hawley’s (Fargo, Legion) Doctor Doom movie, the outlet reports that Fox is developing a Silver Surfer stand-alone movie which is being written by none other than Eisner award-winning writer Brian K. Vaughan. Little else is known about the project at this point. The Silver Surfer previously made his big screen debut in the Fantastic Four sequel released in 2007.

Ryan Reynolds Shares Photos From When Make-A-Wish and Children’s Wish Visited The Set of DEADPOOL 2

One of the many things that I love about Ryan Reynolds is that the guy has a heart and he took time during his busy schedule to hang out with a bunch of kids on the set of Deadpool 2. The actor recently shared some photos on social media of when the production welcomed Make-A-Wish America and Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada to the set. Reynolds said:

“One of the best parts of playing the Big Red Jackass is welcoming Make-A-Wish America and Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada onto set. Deadpool kicked Cancer in the taint, but these kids do it for real every day. These foundations make dreams come true for a lot of of super-brave kids. They also make dreams come true for parents, who just wanna see their kid smile. HUGE thanks to our Prop Master, Dan Sissons, for making sure every kid left with his/her own sword. (Bamboo versions. Not stabby-stabby versions.)”

Deadpool Takes A Break: Here’s Why Ryan Reynolds Won’t Be Performing His Own Stunts On ‘Deadpool 2’

'Deadpool' [Credit: 20th Century Fox]One of the biggest draws of the Valentines’ Day hit Deadpool were the action scenes that showed off the titular mercenary’s brutal combat skills. Whether it was a gun or a katana in his hands, Wade Wilson a.k.a. Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) was more than capable of taking down anyone with ease. But the reality behind filming these awesome fights is a lot harsher than some may think, and this is why Reynolds will not be able to perform his character’s stunts for the highly anticipated Deadpool 2.

In an interview with Empire, Reynolds revealed that he had no choice but to delegate his character’s stunts in the sequel due to his health.

Michael Shannon Frontrunner to Play Cable in Deadpool 2

Michael Shannon Frontrunner to Play Cable in Deadpool 2

Michael Shannon frontrunner to play Cable in Deadpool 2

According to The Hollywood ReporterDeadpool 2 is getting close to casting the much-sought-after role of Cable, and at the top of the studio’s wish list is none other than General Zod himself, Michael Shannon (Man of Steel, Midnight Special). An intense two-time Oscar nominee (Revolutionary Road and last year’s Nocturnal Animals), Shannon is currently the top choice pending scheduling, though Stranger Things actor David Harbour and several others are also on the shortlist. Kyle Chandler was previously rumored for the role but is no longer in contention, and Liam Neeson was also in the rumor mill.

Being able to play a character in both the DC and Marvel world isn’t a new thing, as Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds proved appearing in Marvel’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Blade Trinity and Deadpool, as well as DC’s Green Lantern. Shannon himself has done three DC Comics movies with Man of Steel, a small part in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and in the flop Jonah Hex. He would certainly be a deadly serious foil to the clownish antics of Deadpool.

We recently talked to screenwriter Rhett Reese, who gave us a taste of what the relationship between Cable and the Merc with the Mouth will be in the upcoming sequel. “Ryan plays Deadpool with a hint of femininity, and I think that can be funny opposite a Cable who’s über-masculine,” Reese told us. “That’ll come into casting and performance and the character design and his wardrobe and things like that too. I think we’ll definitely play into that.”

Reese also recently confirmed to Cinema Blend that both an X-Force movie and a Deadpool 3 are being planned as separate follow-ups to Deadpool 2.

“I also think (Deadpool 2) is working in an expansive way towards X-Force, which will really be more of an ensemble. But then that will allow us to do both an X-Force movie and a Deadpool 3, which actually contracts back down… I think we’ll be able to take two paths. One is where we’re launching something bigger, but then another where we’re contracting and staying personal and small. So I think best of all worlds, really.”

Deadpool 2 is set to introduce two key characters from the X-Force world, including Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) as Domino, a luck-manipulating mutant, and Cable, the time-traveling son of the X-Men’s Cyclops. John Wick‘s David Leitch is directing Deadpool 2 from a screenplay by the returning “real heroes here,” screenwriters Reese and Paul Wernick. Reynolds is again serving as a producer on Deadpool 2 alongside X-Men franchise caretakers Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner.

Shannon’s next high-profile gig is one of the leads in Guillermo del Toro’s Civil Rights-era monster movie The Shape of Water, and he will also play George Westinghouse opposite Benedict Cumberbatch’s Thomas Edison in The Current War.

Simon Kinberg Offers Update on GAMBIT and How DEADPOOL Helped it Along

Fox’s Gambit film project hasn’t had a smooth road since it was first announced. At one point Channing Tatum was looking to drop out of the project, then director Rupert Wyatt bailed on the projectm, and was quickly replaced by Doug Liman, and then recently the film was pulled from Fox’s release schedule. The movie is still moving forward, though.

Producer Simon Kinberg recently offered an update on the film. Continue reading

Olivia Munn Explains Why She Turned Down Deadpool

Hollywood is full of stories of the movie casts that could have been. Molly Ringwald could have been the star of Pretty Woman. Ferris Buller could have been played by Johnny Depp. Often, these “almost roles” are lamented as missed opportunities. But for Olivia Munn, not appearing opposite Ryan Reynolds in this year’s hit film Deadpool was a conscious decision about the kind of roles she wants to take on.

Top 10 Mutants!

TOP10top_10_mutants In the Mutant Universe, there is a clearly defined scale accounting for the power level of the various superheroes, villains, robots, mutants and aliens that bum around, because of course there is. We geeks need something tangible to hang our terrible arguments about “who would win in a fight” on, which is exactly what this scale does. At the lower end of the spectrum you have the everyday shmoes – the comic book equivalent of us civilians – and at the very top of the scale is where you’ll find the so-called “Omega level” superpeople.

They are characters who were born with the X-gene and have had an almost limitless amount of power at their fingertips as soon as they left the womb (or even before, in some cases). So with that said lets start off our list!  See if any of our top 10 hit your list! Continue reading
